You know the old saying “laughter is the best medicine”? I saw a meme today that reminded me of how important it is not just to laugh but to have people in your lives who help you laugh when it’s the hardest. When I was at the toughest point struggling with depression, I had no desire to laugh. I had a hard time finding reasons to laugh or being in the mood to do so. During my journey of depression recovery, I discovered the power of laughter. I go into it more in depth in my book but I experienced for myself how laughter has such an incredible impact on us. These days, I laugh often and on the odd day I’m too serious, my kids and husband ensure I don’t get through the day without laughing. Today I just wanted to encourage you to find ways to laugh especially when it’s hard or you don’t feel like it. In the comments, let us know what is a sure way to get a laugh out of you or who you can always count on for a good laugh!
Remember not to take yourself too seriously and that nothing is permanent; this too shall pass.

Thank you for sharing Niki. I would be interested in knowing a few of the things you did to help get you out of your depression and if Reiki was incorporated into any of it. I myself, am naturally melancholic and I treasure anyone’s advice on depression.

My pleasure, I’m glad you enjoyed it! I’d encourage you to check out my book (linked in this post). I detail the 2 year process I used and made it easy with a chapter for each step of the process. You can check out a free sample on Amazon to see if it would be a good for you. I didn’t discover Reiki until after I overcame depression but I wish I had known about it then! Wishing you all that you need to support you on your journey ❤

I will certainly agree with this. There is no better motivator, mood lifter, bringing together of people, situation diffuser than laughter. Especially a very much, naturally brought on laugh, a “belly laugh” or one of those laughter moments where you laugh so hard, the tears flow. One that lingers, even when you are on your own, one that may subside but comes back every few minutes until again, the tears wanting to come out, where you laugh so much, it hurts (in a good way). 🙂

Yesss!! I get all warm inside just thinking about that type of laugh! I had one of those just a couple of nights ago. Silly and unexpected and felt soooo good! May laughter find you every day ❤

Sadly I haven’t had one of those lingering laughter moments for a while now, as I am no longer in the environment where these used to occur. They even used to make everyone else around me laugh which was also a good, if not great feeling. Seeing everyone happy, laughing, one of life’s natural stress relievers.

Laughter is great. How do you find it in yourself to laugh when you feel burdened? And if you laugh without really having any reason to, does it produce benefits to your body or mood?

I guess it depends on the person. It’s hard for me to laugh without reason. For me personally, there are a few sitcoms I love that make me laugh no matter how many times I’ve seen them. I’ve also found that videos of little babies laughing uncontrollably is contagious and cracks me up! I encourage you to find those things that tickle you to your core when you’re in a good place so when you need to laugh and are struggling to do so you have something to fall back on. I haven’t studied the benefits of laughter, I’d be inclined to say it wouldn’t hurt but the benefits might be greater if it’s genuine. Something to look into 🙂

I have seen articles that promote the theory that making yourself smile even when you least feel like it does in fact have beneficial effects, plus smiling uses fewer muscles than frowning and so is less taxing. It naturally lifts your spirits.

Thanks for sharing that, Chris! In my experience, that theory proves to be true.

I’ll see what I can do for a future giveaway. This is the first one I’ve done and it was easy to set up through Amazon. I go back and forth between the US and Europe so I know what it’s like. I’ll keep my non US readers in mind for future events ❤
