If we want to restore our values and make the world a better place, we need to make a collective effort to be more accepting of one another.
What does humanity mean to you? What does tolerance mean? Is there room for you to be more accepting of your fellow man? Do you make a conscious effort to be empathetic and understanding of others? Accepting them where they are without judgement? Share your thoughts below! I’d love to hear what you think about this topic, the quotes or for you to share your own favorite quote on tolerance, acceptance, understanding and humanity.
This may sound strange, but I absolutely hate hearing the word tolerance. To me it is “tolerating” something..and that has such negative connotations. I would hate to have someone just tolerate me..I would so much rather they appreciate the differences in me as I do them. We are all of us, regardless of creed, race or religion exactly the same. we are all humans first. It doesn’t matter if they are straight, gay, trans…back, white, brown or yellow……….it doesn’t matter if their hair is curly or straight…we are ALL the SAME. I wish people would just learn that. the world would be a kinder place for it.

I see where you’re coming from Suze. Maybe I should have used acceptance? Personally I consider tolerance as understanding people have their own stories and whether I’d write mine the same way with the same characters or not I need to respect it. I don’t have to accept it as my own version but I need to respect it all the same and without judgement. So to me tolerance isn’t putting up with something/one, having a bad attitude about it and judging them all the while. It’s seeing there are many stories and turning the page gently, kindly, carefully without tearing it because it’s all part of the same book.

i think it is probably an age thing…the word has changed meaning since I first learned it. I like your definition much better than my own.

That very well could be 🙂 I have a confession to make, I come up with my own definition for words when my vocabulary lacks a better one 😉

Absolutely love this post, great quotes. Tolerance to me means willingness to accept… even if we don’t completely agree with or understand the other person’s perspective, beliefs or choices. Love, kindness, compassion, giving… those are some of the things we need most on this world. Thank you for helping make this world a better place with your thought provoking and kind words.

The quote I liked the most was the one about looking into each other’s hearts. If people would spend more time making a connection with those around them, hate wouldn’t have an environment to survive in! Even if you don’t like someone, if you take a moment to find some common ground or hear their story from their perspective, your impression (judgement) of them will change. Less anonymous hurtful comments behind the protection of computer screens and cell phones more eye to eye conversions and heart to heart connections and the world would be a better place. Even animals do a better job of practicing tolerance than some people. If a leopard in the wilderness can have enough compassion for a baby monkey to adopt it and not have it for dinner (granted the mommy monkey was going to be dinner), people can surely have compassion for their fellow man…
Just so you know I’m not making up the baby monkey scenario- https://youtu.be/ugi4x8kZJzk

Reblogged this on The Richness of a Simple Life and commented:
I don’t watch the news, but there are some things you can’t help but hear about. I always tell myself not to read the comments on articles that catch my attention online…the comments are always my downfall because it saddens me to see the blatant disrespect, lack of empathy, and downright hatred that some people display. Tonight as I go to sleep, I’m going to say a prayer that our hearts globally be more open to love, kindness, and acceptance of others. Sending lots of love to the world today ❤
