A-Z Challenge Post: C- Courageous

Day 3 of the A-Z Challenge posts. Continuing the theme of emotions, writing with the letter C.

Courage comes in many forms; firefighters, police officers, and military personnel come to mind as people that possess and display courage. What about everyday courage? The courage it takes to go to school knowing you are going to be teased, tormented and bullied by the heartless people at school. The courage it takes to go to work knowing that nothing you do is good enough or appreciated.

The courage it takes to live a normal life when you are facing a chronic or terminal illness. The kind it takes to pack up, leave and start a new life after a hardship. Moving on after losing someone near and dear to your heart that you couldn’t imagine life without. Helping a stranger in their time of need even though you have needs of your own. The kind of courage it takes to put one foot in front of the other and walk with your head up high for the sake of the kids. To go out on that first date after having your heart broken even if it was years ago. To accept yourself for who you are without caring what others think. To put on that outfit you love but don’t feel comfortable in because of your weight. To go on that adventure even though you’re afraid of flying, heights, boats, or leaving the house. To ask for assistance because your finances won’t stretch until the end of the month. To love yourself enough to know when to walk away. The courage to stand up for someone else even when it can cost you. The courage to make a difference for the sake of those that have no voice or fight left in them. The courage to stand up for your fellow man without expectation of anything in return.

We all face our own battles and show our own form of courage. Some may seem greater than others, but courage can’t be measured by the result of the act alone. Sometimes one exerts tremendous effort to materialize the smallest amount of courage. Don’t look down upon others because you don’t understand their struggle. You don’t know what it might have taken for them to get out of bed today.

This post is part of the A-Z challenge. For details on the challenge, click here.

Core post summing up what the challenge is about, why I signed up, and what my theme is.

Challenge Posts- you can find all of the posts here.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree? Disagree? Why? Of course I couldn’t cover every aspect or situation that courage is involved but I did try to cover a broad spectrum. When else might someone draw on their inner courage? Do you consider yourself courageous? Who do you consider courageous? Thanks for reading, I hope you come back to see what the A-Z Challenge inspired me to write for the next letter…

  1. I personally find every blogger in our community here courageous. Courageous enough to share their stories, personal lives, and thoughts with all of us. Not everyone has the courage to do that. I give kudos to all of us ☺ lovely post, Niki!

  2. Judging by this post. I do see myself as courageous. It’s sometimes easy to lose perspective when you are in the thick of it. You started off with policemen and firemen. We may say it is their job to be courageous but in order to take on that paid job the courage has too be inside a person already. I loved reading this. Thank you @Daisy from

  3. Beautiful post, Niki. It’s true, there are many people that look careless, but deep inside they’ve won difficult battles. Just not showing it and not telling everybody. These people are very strong.
    Have a nice Monday!

  5. So well said, Niki. I completely agree with your sentiments – courage takes on many forms. Courage isn’t always loud & outgoing, it doesn’t announce itself for all to witness … It can be a quiet, internal battle to overcome some obstacle. So always best to be mindful of others because we don’t know if they’re seeking the courage to do things we may find common place.

    1. Thank you Kim! When I wrote this, I couldn’t help but think there was someone out there that needed to read this. I just hope whoever it is comes across this even if they don’t say anything because every now and then you just need someone else to point it out for you 🙂 In the meantime, it’s a good reminder to be kind and supportive of your fellow man because you just never know what goes on in their mind and their day 🙂

      1. I’m sure there are a lot of people who will take something away from this post … Whether it be mindfulness of others or the ability to see that they themselves have more courage than they might otherwise think! I’m digging these A-Z posts of yours … 😀👏🏼
