Fit Friday- Keeping Active & Veggie Trail

I have been getting up early this week, although not to exercise. I am having a hard time finding a schedule that works. I get up early to meditate because I love how it gets my day off to such a good start.

Once my day is in motion, it doesn’t stop until I go to bed and while I have the time, I no longer have the energy to exercise. Once we have a vehicle it will be easier because I can get up at the same time, and have time to meditate and exercise since I won’t need to leave for work until an hour later. In the meantime, I’m going to keep walking and being as active as I can and continue to make good food choices.

I need to find a schedule and push myself to stick to it.

I am debating on possibly transitioning to vegetarianism. I became a pescatarian for about 4 months a few years ago. Leave it to me to make a radical change with the holidays around the corner, Thanksgiving was too much temptation to resist. The change came last time after watching a documentary on the treatment of animals and it was too much. This time I’m not really sure, but a lot of little bread crumbs have been leading me back to the vegetarian trail and I’ve started to eat less meat. I can’t go cold turkey because I like meat, actually I love meat, ok pretty much just chicken. I’m used to eating it so it’s going to take a little while for me to get used to not eating it as much. I’ve had some pretty tasty, filling and healthy options this week and did have chicken one day and tuna another. The hardest part is my family. My husband is not going meatless so cooking meat for him and eating a bowl of couscous it a tough spoon to swallow.

I know I’ll have to be extra careful to make good food choices because the tricky thing is to fill yourself up without overloading on carbs to makeup for the meat. Let’s face it, after eating a bottomless bowl of salad, you’re hungry in 10 minutes flat. Well at least I am. I’m also going to start juicing to increase my veggie intake. Hopefully one of you can explain this to me because my brain just can’t comprehend how you can toss 14 veggies into a juicer and drink it but you can’t sit up and eat it. It’s the same quantity, why are you able to drink it but only eat a portion of it in one sitting?

  1. Dear Niki, I know what you are talking about when it comes to creating a exercise plan and stick to it. I sometimes have the same problem. I can not be a vegetarian. I was thinking about it as well. However I learned that I am not able to cut out meat totally. Which is good, because my body told me what it needs and it is ok like that I guess. But I tried not to eat bread and pasta and it really helped me to feel better. It is difficult not to eat bread for breakfast fir instance, but it gets easier with a time. I have a lot more energy during the day and I no longer feel exhausted. It helps your body to clean itself. And I started to eat a lot more veggie. Instead of a desert which I used o have almost every day, I eat an apple or carrot, or tomatoes. It is my third week now and I really feel a lot better.     1. Good for you! I’m so glad that you are finding healthy choices that work for you. Great job on three weeks strong of healthy food choices! Oh man, bread would be really hard to drop, especially fresh baked European bread ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I have started eating it less often and in smaller portions but I can’t change everything at once because I know I’ll go running back in no time ๐Ÿ˜‰ Yeah I think at first I’ll probably let myself have meat once or twice a week and then I’ll see how it goes. My goal is not to have it three times a day everyday.

  2. I was a vegetarian for 3 years. Honestly, it took me about two weeks to get over meat. The big thing is- you have to find a substitute. What are you craving in meat you can get from something else? Normally this is brought about by a balanced diet. You may be surprised how in tune to your body’s needs you’ll become when you take meat away. Good luck!!

    1. That’s what I’ve heard which is one of the reasons why I want to give it a try. May I ask why you are no longer a vegetarian? No need to answer if you don’t want to, just curious as you’ve been there and were successful for such a long time ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. I stopped because I had a boyfriend at the time who was from a culture where if you did not eat something someone made you it was a huge insult. So, I learned to eat meat. I still tend to be mostly vegetarian though. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I wouldn’t class myself as a Veggie, but I’m definitely a pescatarian with some occasional meats. It’s not that I don’t like the idea of an animal being killed and being eaten, but I just don’t like meat! The texture, taste and consistency doesn’t sit right with me and never really has.

    Ever since going to university and discovering just how awesome (sounds so nerdy) vegetables are, I’ve never looked back. There’s so many great flavours and dishes that genuinely stuff you to the brim that there’s no need for me to go make to forcing myself to eat meat! I get all my protein from a shake and some bars. Great post!

  4. I am not a big meat eater myself. Chicken and turkey here and there. I can relate to you by emotions that trigger documentaries of treating animals( Please be sure to watch your diet for any vitamin or mineral deficiencies if you decide to go vegan. I’ve learned from my own experience (anemia), and see it happens with my clients.

    1. Hi Maryana, thank you for your insight and concern. I have lots of articles I’m referring to so I can make sure to eat a balanced diet and compensate for anything I might lack while learning how to transition. I’m also trying to make sure not to go into carb overload so I don’t start gaining the weight I’ve already successfully shed ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. I’m not a vegetarian, but I do eat a lot of veggies. I make smoothies, juices, and big salads. Eating veggies can get tricky, because they fill you up with fiber, but you get hungry again after a little while. I’ve found the trick is to add protein and healthy fats to your smoothie or salad. Like I said, I’m not a vegetarian, so I add greek yogurt, eggs, cheese, chicken, tuna, things like that. But I guess things like beans, lentils, and tofu would be a good substitute.
