This week’s Travel Thursday post is the second Love Is In Da Blog post. The prompt is a building you love. I have put a lot of thought into this one and have decided on the Sydney Opera House. There are several reasons that I chose this particular building.
-
My mom spent her childhood in Australia, so it being an internationally recognized symbol of Australia it brings back many fond memories of her childhood.
-
My grandfather helped build it. When they moved to Australia, one of his early jobs was as one of the construction crew members. He is very sentimental about this, and he is not openly sentimental about many things. Ever since I can remember, my grandparents have had several photos of the opera house hanging in their living room.

Taking reasons 1 and 2 into consideration Australia has always been a place I have wanted to visit. I would love to be able to go with my mom and accompany her to experience it as an adult; go to places that she remembers and see how much has changed. Australia is a beautiful country and my family having lived there makes it special and more endearing to me.
The more I thought about the prompt, the more this building seemed like the perfect fit. For me it is a symbol of great times for the generations that came before me and have such loving memories of their time as a young family in a beautiful country. I hope to be able to take a picture with my family there one day. Until then, I share with you the picture of this unique building that was taken by a new friend of mine that was kind enough to let me share it with you.

What is your favorite building? Why? Does it bring back memories? Is it a building you’ve been to or one you want to see one day?
Family beautiful thing

The reason for your choice is an amazing historical connection. Pride in that building and your grandfather pours from your post. An excellent choice. I will return with mins…. i just need to check something out before I post.

Great post 🙂 I had no idea your family had such history here. And how exciting to know your grandfather helped build such an iconic symbol of my home town. I hope you do make it here one day, I would love to show you & yours around the city. It is indeed a beautiful building, in a beautiful city. Come out for NYE … Seeing the fireworks on the harbour is amazing 😀 xx

I have wanted to move there my whole life! I’ve looked into it but it’s quite difficult to move there. My grandparents are Australian citizens. I will contact you when it becomes a reality so we can have a local guide 😉 I’d love to meet you in person! Thanks agyfor providing the picture 🙂

Awesome! It would be great to meet you & show you around. It is pretty difficult to move here, the immigration laws are so strict. It gets harder the older you get too. I’m not sure whether there are any visas based on ancestry but it’s worth checking out.
You have my email, so drop me a line if ever you come out for a visit 🙂
And no worries re the photo 😀

I’ve looked into it a few times but I don’t think it helps because my grandparents became citizens and my mom isn’t so I don’t think it changes much. 😦 I know when I go I won’t want to leave 😦 haha

Of course I love your choice ; ) I am happy that this dream is still tucked away in your heart. It is also my dream to go back and visit one day and what better way to revisit my childhood than with my daughter and my precious grand babies! : )
